James High, M.S.
Licensed Psychologist
James has been providing mental health services for 30 years. He earned his degree at Loyola College in 1988 and obtained his Psychologist License in 1995. He has worked in a psychiatric hospital, a community mental health agency, and private counseling practices. He has been responsible for the supervision of other counselors as a group Clinical Supervisor within the community counseling agency and maintained a private practice for 15 years. He has worked with troubled youth, adolescent, and adult populations providing individual, couples, and family counseling.
He welcomes the opportunity to provide clinical services to adults who are struggling in a variety of areas of emotional distress. His approach to the counseling process is primarily a cognitive-behavioral approach and incorporates other proven intervention techniques as required. His expertise lies in treating all forms of Mood and Anxiety Disorders, coping with grief and loss, couples/marital therapy stress, and time management. More recently he has provided individual therapy for health and wellness issues. For the past two years, he has co-facilitated health and wellness groups for clients suffering from Diabetes, Obesity, or heart-related illnesses. He employs a holistic approach to treatment for health and wellness which often includes issues surrounding weight management such as meal planning, exercise, and coping with chronic health-related conditions associated with obesity.
He respects the values of others and provides Christian-based counseling services upon expressed interest by the individual. He is active in his local church and acknowledges the spiritual dimension of a person as important to their overall well-being.
He looks forward to the opportunity to partner with others in the change process, moving from pain and emotional distress toward greater emotional health and overall wellness.
